Magi Scallion, the brainchild of the five-year-old Golden Ultra race has announced she’s transferring ownership to TransRockies, Inc.

The Golden Ultra, a three-day trail race in Golden, British Columbia, is under new ownership. After five years of organizing the event, Magi Scallion is transferring ownership of the Golden Ultra to TransRockies, Inc, the producer of such events as the Singletrack 6, TransRockies Run, TranSelkirks Run, Moab Rocks, Golden Two Four and others.

Launched in 2015 with 150 runners, the Golden Ultra now hosts more than 500 registered participants, two stage races, a kid’s stage race, and a 120-kilometre ultra marathon. The Golden Ultra takes place annually on the second-last weekend in September.

“After five great years of building the Golden Ultra, it’s time for me to take a step back and focus on my personal health and well-being,” says Scallion. “Selling an event that I’ve built from the ground up is not an easy decision, as it means saying goodbye to the many great runners, sponsors and volunteers I’ve worked with over the years, but I could not think of a better production company than TransRockies.”

TransRockies has been operating in Golden since 2014 when Golden hosted two stages of the inaugural Singletrack 6 mountain bike race, an event which returned to Golden again in 2016 and 2018. In 2016, TransRockies also launched the Golden Two Four Mountain Bike Weekend, an annual 24-hour and 8-hour race for solos and relay teams at the Keith King Memorial Park.

“We’re thrilled to be adding the Golden Ultra to our portfolio of outdoor endurance events, and specifically strengthening our running series in Canada,” says Aaron McConnell, president of the TransRockies Race Series. “Magi has done a great job in building the Golden Ultra, starting with a great vision for a new Ultra, followed up with outstanding execution and an amazing sense of community. We’ve got great partnerships in Golden that have helped us make our events successful. The Golden Cycling Club, Town of Golden, and Tourism Golden have all been really supportive and great to work with. We look forward to continuing these excellent relationships with the Golden Ultra.”

No major changes are planned for the operation of the Golden Ultra in 2020, which will be held September 18-20. It will be directed by Kevin “Houda” McDonald, race director for the world-famous Under Armour TransRockies Run in Colorado and many other events. All runners will have a chance to win an entry to the 15th anniversary 2021 Under Armour TransRockies Run. For more information visit transrockies.com.
