Surfers from across Canada and around the globe are packing their bags and heading for Vancouver Island for this weekend’s Rip Curl Pro Tofino. Here’s a sneak peak of the action to be expected.

This weekend’s Rip Curl Pro Tofino, presented by Monster Energy, serves as the Canadian Surfing Championships, and includes three days of competition will commence on Friday May 12th in Tofino, British Columbia.

One hundred and fifty surfers over twelve categories will vie for the title of Rip Curl Pro Champion, with the top ranked Canadian holding the 2017 National title.

The hotly contested Men’s Pro category is set to excite with all previous event champions currently registered to compete. Canada’s Peter Devries (6-time Champion) and Noah Cohen (2-time Champion) will be hoping to stop the recent Californian onslaught, led by Noah “Waggy” Wegrich (2015 Champion) and defending champ Kevin Schulz.

On the women’s side, teenage Phenom, Matea Olin, will look to continue her ascendancy to the top of Canadian Women’s surfing. A solid field of girls, led by previous champion and Tofino local Hanna Scott will make sure that Olin is on the top of her game to win her first Rip Curl Pro Women’s Pro title.

Three-time world surfing champion, Tom Curren (Santa Barbara, California) is heading back to Tofino to defend his Masters title and take down some event favourites in the Men’s Pro division.

Nick Russell, Rip Curl Pro Event Director & Rip Curl Canada VP, added “a week out we are all getting antsy to get going. The competitor list is the strongest we have ever seen and we’re excited that Canada’s premiere event is increasingly attracting elite surfers from around the world.”
