Two kudos to @travisrice who made some memorable i Two kudos to @travisrice who made some memorable impressions in Revelstoke recently. First he crushed it at the Natural Selection Tour at @revelstokemtnresort coming in first after dropping a pillow/cliff line that we still can’t fully fathom.

Then he dropped to one knee and proposed to his partner Brook while standing on top of Charity Peak with Virtue Peak in the background, just east of Revy. Of@all the summits in the Selkirks, those two are well chosen for starting your journey of marital bliss.

Congrats on so many levels Travis.

And congrats to Revy for hosting a stellar event. So much snoooooow!

This season we took the goods from @flylowgear aro This season we took the goods from @flylowgear around the world, testing it in areas from the Japan backcountry to the Kootenay terrain out our backdoor.

Check out our thoughts on this decidedly-backcountry brand from Colorado via the link in our bio.

And for those lucky enough to have experienced them both, we ask: What’s your fave? Japow or Kootenay Coldsmoke?

Whether in a military capacity or in response to t Whether in a military capacity or in response to the unfolding humanitarian crisis, members of Ukraine’s mountain community have found their skills invaluable this past year. For example, 36-year-old Andrey Nenko is a guide, avalanche safety coordinator, instructor, cat driver, and first-aid attendant. It’s a lifestyle many Kootenay residents can relate to: he gets paid to ski tour in the winter and he mountain bikes in the summer.

But when Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Nenko felt compelled to help defend his country. He left his job, said goodbye to his wife and daughter, joined the army, and travelled to the battlefront.

Would you do the same?

Huge congratulations to our regular contributor @j Huge congratulations to our regular contributor @jaymemoye for winning an award from the North American Travel Journalists Association (@natjaorg) for the story “Tenureland: Why Adventure Tourism Tenure in the Kootenays is So Divisive,” which appeared in our 20th Anniversary issue.

This was a challenging story to do, not least of all because everyone has an opinion about tenure in these parts. In fact, just the other day we received a comment about the Zincton sidebar, which appears in the piece, and how it was “too soft.” Glad the professionals at NATJA didn’t think so.

It took Jayme two months and nearly 30 interviews to write this piece. The award is well deserved. Congrats again, Jayme!

➡️ You can read it all via the link in our bio.
