Snowbombing Canada returns to Sun Peaks resort near Kamloops, British Columbia April 5-9. The headliner is world-famous electronic duo Odesza.

Alex Bennett, Director of Festivals at Broadwick Live.

The Snowbombing experience is definitely unique: equal parts skiing, equal parts party. The festival landed at Sun Peaks Resort near Kamloops last year and is again returning April 5-9, 2018. During the four-day event the resort offers musical acts from around the country and the world on its Forest Stage, as well as alpine yoga, the Snolympics, Cable-Car Karaoke and more. We caught up with Alex Bennett, the Director of Festivals at Broadwick Live in his London, England office to find out more about Snowbombing Canada.

Tell us a bit more about the history of the festival? How did it make its way here to Canada?

Snowbombing began in 1999 as a ski trip for a bunch of friends from Manchester in the UK. We found a suitable ski resort and booked a coach and about 300 people landed in Risoul, France. After a couple of very small events in various resorts, Snowbombing found Mayrhofen and the festival really started to take shape. We were blessed to find an incredible resort with awesome slopes, lots of highly unique features (such as a stage in a nearby Forest) and most importantly, lovely locals who wanted the event to succeed. We saw many parallels with Sun Peaks as soon as we arrived. Taking the concept of Snowbombing to new frontiers has always been a dream of ours, but it wasn’t until we found Sun Peaks that we knew we could make it a reality here. Another big reason is the Canadians themselves: They’re very friendly, they love snow sports, they like a joke and they love to party – it’s some of the core ingredients of Snowbombing!

Aside from the live music, what else can we expect throughout the event?

Snowbombing Canada is a riot of revelry, fun and games and general daftness spread across four days. Alongside the mountains and 4,000 acres of piste to explore, mountaintop parties and secret shindigs taking place across the resort, we also put on daily Yoga classes, hold a Slush Cup where boarders can speed down a ramp and hurl themselves into an icy pool (it’s more fun than it sounds, honest), Rail Comps for Pro Boarders, and for those looking for amore on the mountain, we have Chair Lift Speed Dating for anyone to try! It’s like speed dating but with a better view, basically…

What’s your favorite part of Snowbombing Canada?

The best part of Snowbombing Canada is just the energy and enthusiasm of everyone at the festival. There is an infectiously fun atmosphere all week, a sense of hedonism and escapism that permeates every inch of the festival. Because it’s quite full on – all day skiing and boarding then all night partying – we tend to attract the hardier festival goers who are ready for anything the festival can offer. That’s what makes the energy so good!

What musical act are you most looking forward to?

Our lineup for 2018 is incredible – I’m super excited to see Goldlink for the first time, plus regulars The Funk Hunters always provide the best party. However, it’s a bit obvious to say but I simply cannot wait for our headliner to perform at the Forest Party. Odesza is amazing, and to see them perform under the stars, with the mountains and a canopy of trees as their backdrop will be something truly special… Hurry up April!
