Liars, Liars, Everywhere

David suzuki is an asshole. It’s true. I heard it from a conservationist. He said Suzuki—the godfather of the Canadian enviro movement—is an egomaniac. He said the Icon of Enviro was rude. He said Suzuki’s reputation is terrible in scientific circles. I know it’s real because he met Suzuki. This information is based on a true story. Hold on, though. A story is either true or it isn’t, isn’t it? These are murky waters.

Three Cups of Tea. A Million Little Pieces. That dramatically enhanced stream-crossing scene in The Art of Flight. From fictional novels to creative memoirs to yellow journalism, people lie constantly in any form of media. David Suzuki may be an asshole. He may be a lovely human being. I don’t know. I’ve never met the guy. What I do know is that we need to be vigilant about what lies we buy into so willingly. A made-up dramatic story is a magical thing. A lie is a lie is a lie. Based on a true story? We’d be better off to think for ourselves and quit buying into the fiction of “truth.”
